Engagements continue

The receiver of the above ring knew that it was coming but had no idea of the design. I was able to meet with her and get a starting finger size. However the ring that her partner designed after that measuring with me was wider than the sizers used to measure her finger. This meant that whilst she could get the ring on after the proposal it was too tight.

For many people a wider ring needs to be made to a larger size to fit the same finger. In some cases getting the size wrong is a very big issue.

Article: Rings that cannot be resized

The side featuring the initials of the couple.

There are many reasons why you should not resize a new ring and that is why many years ago I started using my proposal ring method. I have been making draft rings prior to the actual piece for even longer so the proposal ring is really a draft of sorts.

Article: Why you should avoid resizing a new ring

Article: The proposal ring

So yes this ring is a proposal ring and will get melted down just like the ring in the above article link. It is also why I had no hesitation resizing it, as that is what it is for. We may resize it numerous times until she is 100% certain that the size is right. I will then remake the ring to her perfect ring size for this design.

Whilst finalising the finger size we are also discussing her desired wedding ring. Planning for that now means that any changes required for the two rings to sit together nicely when the time comes can be made when I remake the proposal ring.

Article: The planning pays off

Thank you to all my patient customers as I dealt with both my wife and son being ill and managing work when I could. I am still catching up but gradually getting there.

Calm ponds of Barron Gorge.

I have had very little time to go bush of late so when I do get a chance to get some alone time it is usually in the nearby Barron Gorge.

Rock hopping in Barron Gorge.

Just so long as there is no rain about I love to rock hop around the Gorge. Once they let the water out of the hydro plant late afternoon the change to the water is dramatic and the rafters start coming down.

Barron Gorge just before dark - 24th August 2020.

With both my wife and son much better now and myself burnt out a little, I am taking the weekend off and going bush alone for the first time in a long while. Have a great weekend and if you can, get out, slow down and enjoy the wonderful country we live in.
