Mum's diamond = priceless

29th March 2023

The starting point for our design.

I have made the above design a few times now, all with slight variations that make the ring to some degree unique. A customer had an old ring that was her Mother’s and wanted to turn it into something she could wear. She liked the design above.

Mockup of the design modified to suit the diamonds.

After establishing that the gold was not viable to recycle we set about adapting the one large and eight smaller diamonds from her mother’s ring to the design and her finger size.

Above is what we came up with. In the end it was decided to add two small diamonds to the end of each shoulder to taper them off nicely.

Drafts of the ring for remote sizing.

With the customer based in Cooktown and having returned home after our initial meeting I needed to confirm the correct finger size for this design remotely. Generic sizers are not accurate enough.

I had a start measurement from our meeting and made two draft rings of varying sizes which I express posted to her. With the size decided upon I could now make the ring.

The finished ring.

The finished ring is the same design but very different at the same time. A big thank you to this customer for entrusting me with the working on her Mother’s irreplaceable and (to her) priceless diamond.
